is your home winter ready?
As winter approaches, preparing your plumbing systems for winter is essential to avoid costly damage and downtime. A well-prepared system not only saves on repairs but also delivers peace of mind throughout the coldest months of the year.
Check out these handy tips!
bleed your radiators
It is important to bleed your radiator before the heating season begins to remove trapped air and ensure even distribution of heating. Trapped air can stop the radiator from heating up efficiently and can force the heating system to work harder, resulting in higher energy bills and reduced efficiency.
How to bleed your radiator:
- turn off the heating in your home.
- once the radiator has cooled down, locate the bleed valve on the radiator and position a cloth and container underneath.
- using a radiator key, slowly turn the valve anti-clockwise until it makes a hissing sound.
- wait for the hissing sound to stop and for water to pour out into the container.
- close the valve by turning it clockwise with the radiator key.
- check it is secure and turn your heating back on.

check your boiler
Do you have your boiler serviced every year?
Having your boiler serviced can prevent breakdowns and downtime, which are the last thing you want when it’s cold outside!
install an anti-freeze tap
Installing an anti-freeze tap outdoors is extremely important in preventing burst pipes caused by frozen water inside the pipe, therefore preventing other issues such as water damage to walls. Overall, the taps reduce the likelihood of expensive repairs.
